Junior League Member Spotlight Article: Katie Pobjecky Molin
By Lauren Gail
Junior League Technology Department Chair, Katie Pobjecky Molin, recently showcased a collection of original fine art at Carolyn’s Art Gallery in Bartow. On August 19, 2011, Katie debuted nine paintings and three sculptures during the early evening art show. Family, friends, co-workers, and community members sipped wine or punch as they mingled together, browsing the introspective, and sometimes controversial, art pieces.
Her paintings range from tasteful female nudes to vibrant longhorn bulls, to dainty ballerinas, to mother child portraits, and more, while her sculptures are interpretations of the female body. The featured painting was a thoughtful female nude on a rich, relaxing background. One art show attendee said she felt the painting cherished femininity while exemplifying vulnerability and strength.
Katie studied art at Florida State University and University of Central Florida. She was accepted into the University of South Florida Bachelor of Fine Arts program and the Orlando Museum of Art displayed her work twice. The October 2011 edition of Bartow Magazine, a publication of the Polk County Democrat, featured a two-page spread on the artist. Always up for a challenge, Katie considers requests for commissioned paintings.
Being a full time working mom, she still finds the time to paint, volunteer, and pursue another passion: running. She attributes her success to the unwavering support of her husband and daughter.

Katie's Artist Statement (which I also wrote)
Art is my passion and I find joy in painting a wide variety of subjects; however, my greatest fulfillment lies in creating the female body and depicting her emotions. I evoke the essence of femininity in rock and paint using alabaster, clay, water color, acrylic and oil. I capture a glimpse of life, a flash of emotion and save it forever more; so that every time I gaze upon her I ponder her story.
I dive into a painting brush first reveling in the endeavor. I boldly experiment with colors, sometimes preferring to see blues, reds or yellows mixed into skin tone. It is as if my quick brush strokes send up pops of color and wisps of emotion into the air even as they are laid down onto canvas, until the room fills with the reality of the story; I can smell the rain or feel the warmth of the sun, perceive her guilt or her elation.
A surge of adrenaline washes over me when I sense I can do no more to convey what is inside me. The positive energy leaves me satisfied and ready for the next inspiration to grasp and share with the world.
